Catch some Art
Islamorada is home to wide variety of artists, and you can see and purchase some of their work at Lobster Trap Art Gallery. It’s an easy trip from Pelican Cove Inn, and a great way to spend an afternoon. With four different artists displayed in one location, it also means there should be something that catches your attention.
This gallery gets its name from the lobster traps that are used to frame many of the pieces—some of them with barnacles that add a lot of additional character. These frames also mean that each piece will be unique. If you’re looking more for a souvenir than a full-blown work of art, you can also have an artist print a piece of your choice onto a tile for you to take. Either way, you also have the option of having your work shipped for free wherever you would like it to go, which means you can send gifts directly to their recipients or have them waiting for you when you return home.
While there is a diversity of subject matter among the pieces, most are paintings of the Florida Keys’ beaches and wildlife, so you’ll always have something to remember your vacation by. When you’re hungry, there are also several restaurants very close by for your enjoyment. If the lobster traps made you crave crustaceans, you’ll want to stop by the local gem Islamorada Shrimp Shack, where you can get shrimp tacos, shrimp ‘n’ grits, and even a shrimp quesadilla. For dessert, you can also stop by Mrs. G’s Ice Cream and cool down with ice cream known for its large portions and reasonable prices—great if you’ve expended your travel budget on artwork.
Once you’ve perused the Lobster Trap Art Gallery and its nearby restaurants, you’ll most likely want to drop off your wares—or at least digest your dinner and dessert—and the Pelican Cove Inn is close by to do so. Then, you’ll be ready to tackle your nighttime plans.
